We made it

It was quite a significant moment for me yesterday as we arrived at Machu Picchu.
Tim and I were meant to be in Peru in October 2008. We'd booked the holiday earlier in the year and then I was diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2008. Through tears, as I was undergoing a biopsy, I said to the consultant 'I'm meant to be going to Peru in a month's time'....
When booking this trip a lot of you know that I was unsure whether to include Peru in the itinerary...but then some people said 'maybe now is your time to go'.
Tim and I walked the Lares Trek rather than the Inca Trail as we booked our tour late and all of the passes had gone. It was a three day trek and Tim is going to write a separate post about it, but it meant that we didn't trek into Machu Picchu but got to it by bus while waiting for the rest of our tour group to walk in. I got a bit emotional on the bus but when we arrived I was just looking forward to seeing it. We arrived at 7.15am and there was cloud all over the site as it is in the rainforest... An hour or so later, after our group had arrived, it started to clear and there it was....the Inca treasure I was due to see in 2008 was right before me in 2014.
I feel very lucky to be able to see such wonderful things.
I dedicate this post to my late friend, Cherry Robinson. Xx
